Sensor Actuator Interface

SAI distributors combine the signals from sensors and actuators within the machines and systems themselves. This cuts installation and service costs because we use pre-assembled conductors and conventional M5/M8/M12 circular connectors.

SAI Products from Weidmüller are reliable, economical and durable. Our comprehensive product range not only adapts to the various bus systems but also to different environments such as rough industrial surroundings or those requiring Ex-protected components.

Sensor Actuator Interface: Passive
A well designed system for direct installation – without the need for a protective housing.

Modern installation concepts should be designed to save material, costs, time, space, and weight. Products that meet these requirements are therefore absolutely essential.

Weidmüller’s SAI (Sensor-Actuator -Interface) distributors with four, six, or eight connectors are available in various versions. As M12 with 4 or 5-pole design, in M8 and IDC quick-fit connection in 3 or 4-pole design. They are integrated into the relevant machine or plant by "direct installation", have a "flat" design, are sturdy and meet the IP 68 protection class (IP 67 HARAX®).

SAI Passive

Sensor Actuator Interface:  Active

The active SAI family encompasses fieldbus components for Profibus-DP, CANopen, Interbus and AS-Interface.

Input and/or output devices should be introduced into the process directly on the spot to make full use of the cost-saving effects of fieldbus networked I/O systems. Modules of protection class IP 67 should be used if the environment is polluted and/or particularly damp.

Weidmüller’s range of IP 67- SAI active distributors offers a number of new solutions for just such conditions. The modules comprise the passive SAI- (UT) distributors, already successful for a number of years, and a pluggable electronics module. These electronics modules are available for Profibus-DP, CANopen and Interbus. The big advantage of the modular design is the pre-wiring of the passive SAI modules by means of M12 or HARAX® IDC. The decision in favor of a particular fieldbus can be made independent of the wiring of the passive SAI modules. The fieldbus can be changed later without affecting the wiring.

Sensor Actuator Interface: Accessories

Weidmüller offers a wide selection of accessories for SAI distributors.

  • Full line of sockets, plugs and cable assemblies
  • Connectors include pre-fabricated and field attachable models
  • All standard connection types supported including M5, M8 and M12
new

Weidmuller’s new high flex cables have been designed and tested in C-track applications, where the cable continuously rolls back and forth, over 2100mm at 1.75m/s and an acceleration reaching 50m/s2. The halogen free PUR/PUR cables achieved a rating of 2 million cycles and the standard PUR/PVC cables are rated at 20 million cycles.

FBCon

FBCon fieldbus distributors are available in industrial and EEx (ia) versions. They are used for coupling 1–8 field devices or sensors. The connection is made via stub cables. The stub cable is connected optionally by an M12 or 7/8˝ plug-in connector or directly via an EMC cable gland. The communication and device powering is handled by a common 2-core wire. This feature is the same for PROFIBUS-PA and Fieldbus Foundation.

JACKPAC® (IP67) Signal Converter

JACKPAC® is the new M12 Signal Box with the high IP67 ingress protection. Weidmüller now provides a modular and versatile concept that makes it possible to condition signals in an industrial environment. Requiring no additional enclosure, these modules can be installed directly on the machine, in the production plant, conveyor system or within a process.

The M12 connector, which is standardized all over the world, makes it possible to integrate the JACKPAC® at any point in the sensor-actuator cabling. The fixed pin assignment means it is easy to install and is protected against polarity reversal.

This versatility really helps when an installation needs to be altered or updated, simply because no additional enclosures or cabling are required. By providing this high degree of protection and versatility, JACKPAC® provides innovative automation concepts based on decentralized applications – without large control cabinets or small distribution boards – for consistent, transparent, efficient and cost-efficient installations.
